Description (Service) The Amateur Radio Operator Certificate is required to operate amateur radio apparatus. * Annual license renewal no longer necessary. * Industry Canada must be informed of mailing address changes. 
 
The Amateur Radio Service Centre (ARSC) provides service by e-mail, fax, mail or via the website. Obtaining an Amateur Radio Operator Certificate and all administrative activities for amateur radio, e.g. the issuance of amateur radio operator call signs, changes of mailing address and requests for special event or special prefix call signs, are managed from this central location.

Eligibility In order to receive a certificate, the person must be examined by an accredited examiner or, in special cases, be examined at the local district office of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada
Application To obtain a call sign complete the Application and Report for Amateur Radio Operator Certificate and Call Sign (IC-2381), which is available from the website. The application is to be submitted either by mail, email or fax to the Amateur Radio Service Centre. Requests can also be submitted directly through the website.

Fees Service - A fee is not required to issue the initial call sign with the Amateur Radio Operator Certificate. ; A fee of $60 is required to change an existing call sign or to request additional call signs, club call signs, or special event call signs.
